Back in January of this year, I was thrifting at my local Habitat ReStore and spotted a spinning photo frame that was in excellent condition. I was fresh off a Christmas high, with several “coulda, shoulda, woulda” holiday project ideas bouncing around in my head. But it was January and time to move on, right?
Nope. I put the frame in my cart and filed away this Christmas idea for a later time…and finally, FINALLY, that time is now.

A year’s worth of dust removed!
My idea was to use this spinning frame to display some of my vintage Christmas postcards. I just love a Victorian postcard, and Christmas versions (especially with Santa) are a particular favorite.

Some of my favorites…
And since I have no intention of altering my postcards (cutting, Mod-Podging, etc.), then finding new and improved ways to display them is a constant struggle. But a postcard carousel with this photo frame? That could definitely work! This post contains affiliate links for your crafting convenience.
Like I mentioned before, the frame was in like-new condition and was easily dismantled for cleaning…

Getting ready for a makeover…
…and, well, painting. You know I had to paint it, right? And to emulate a Christmas tree, I went with a rich Kelly green.

A little green paint never hurts, right?
And I should note that, while not pictured, I sanded down the actual frames and centerpiece a tad…just to help the paint adhere better.
Once the paint had dried overnight, I cleaned the glass plates and re-gathered all the moving parts.

Isn’t that festive?
I selected my favorite postcards and then set each one (back to back) between two plates of glass, and then slipped the glass into each frame. Now- I will mention that because postcards are thicker than photos, it was a tight squeeze from time to time. So, if you recreate a similar project, you may want to consider scanning and color printing some of the postcards to streamline the process.

Putting it back together again…
And there you have it- a Vintage Christmas Postcard Carousel! Perfect for displaying 8 postcards, and people can spin it to view them all.

A fresh way to display my favorite postcards.
A postcard carousel is a nice variation on a tabletop tree, isn’t it? Plus, each postcard is protected from prying fingers or curious cats (I’m not mentioning names…Cottonball!). And you know? I went back and forth between red paint or green paint…but I’m quite happy with the green.

Pretty!
Christmas is such a whirlwind time for everyone, so if you missed any of my holiday-themed projects from this year (or before), you can check them all out here.
Craft on!
