So, would y’all mind another Valentine’s Day project? It’s February…a new month…and time for my latest contribution to The Good Life Blog. Why not celebrate with some simple, thrifty, V-Day décor?
It all started when I was out on a thrifting adventure. I walked around the store and didn’t find a single treasure for my cart. Don’t you hate it when that happens?
Anyway, I hit the last corner of the store when my eyes spied some pressed cane webbing- four pieces of it, to be exact.

Thrift store SCORE!
With treasure in hand, I decided to put them to good holiday use (well, two of them, at least). This post contains affiliate links for your crafting convenience.
So, I gathered my Valentines-esque colored spray paints. The naked webbing was, well, a little gross.

Let’s cover up the grossness, shall we?
And because I can’t get enough oversized cross stitch, I decided to create a large, colorful heart on each piece of webbing. Plus, I already had leftover chunky yarn from my tennis racquet project!

Much prettier now…
Using some standard graph paper, I sketched out my cane webbing mat and designed a large, basic heart shape that used as much of the cane as possible. And like I’ve done before, I cut a long strand of yarn, wrapped one end in painter’s tape, and began stitching.

I just LOVE jumbo cross stitch…easier on the ol’ eyes, too.
A note to cross stitch purists- and don’t get mad at me- but with large scale projects like this, I find it makes more sense to complete each “x” individually, instead of going row by row.
The beauty of oversized cross stitch? I was done with the heart outline in a few minutes!

Pretty!
Using both the pink and red yarns, I alternated colors until the heart was filled in.

Love it.
Now, I thought about hanging it on the door, because it’s the right size and would be easy to hang. But instead, I think I’ll make little Valentine’s vignettes. But either way, it’s cute, quirky, and cross stitch is a great activity for cold days snuggled up on the couch!

A lovey-dovey vignette.
Oh, here’s the other cane webbing that I did! For this one, I spray painted it pink and didn’t fill in the entire heart. Still cute, but a little different.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Ok- NOW I’m done with Valentine’s projects this year…I promise! But the real question….what should I do with the remaining pair of cane webbing mats??
Craft on…and Happy Valentine’s Day!
