Sometimes I walk the aisles of thrift stores and have “near-craft experiences”, which is when I have a repurposing idea immediately, right there in the shop. But there are plenty of times when I find a treasure with potential but don’t have a clear vision in mind. That, my friends, is what happened when I came across this adorable vintage set of coasters that looked like a bookcase of encyclopedias!

I’m a sucker for “little” books.
I know, I know- I already played around with a vintage coaster set just a few months ago! But, bear with me- as my idea might come in VERY handy this holiday season…
As I removed the tape from my newly-procured coaster set, I thought about upcoming holiday parties and the beverages that would be consumed. That’s when I realized a few holiday party truths:
- It’s party season…and flu season…which drink is mine??
- Wine charms are great for stemware…
- But what about regular glasses and beer bottles? How can I tastefully mark (and remember) my drink?
With individualized party coasters, of course! And in my case, individualized “ Christmas book” coasters. This post contains affiliate links for your crafting convenience.

Seriously, though- aren’t they the cutest?
Since my “book” coasters were already green with gold trim, they were well on their way to a Christmas-y feel. I just needed to give the bookcase a merry makeover with some bright red spray paint (with my comfy trigger handle).

Let’s make this jolly and red!
Now, to make each coaster different (and thus act as a “wine charm” for each drink), I used a good-quality paint pen in gold.

NOW to give each coaster an identity…
I made a list of Christmas/winter-themed words and carefully wrote one word on each of my party coasters …and while my handwriting isn’t fabulous, I just went with it. Stenciling or image transferring just sounded like an awful lot of work on a small, curved work space. So, I threw caution to the wind and put pen to paper, err…wood coaster.

Not perfect, but not horrendous. I can live with that!
Can I just say that I LOVE that gold paint marker? It wrote wonderfully and dried in a moment’s time. Anyway, in the theme of all things holiday, I decided to embellish my now-red bookcase with a little more pizazz. After nixing stencils and rubber stamps, I decided to use Christmas stickers/decals!

Finishing touches!
My favorites were the clear-backed snowflake decals, which I ended up using exclusively. With the glossy red paint, the edges of the stickers almost disappear entirely!! So it looks more like a stencil than an easy-way-out sticker.

See what I mean?
And there you have it- a set of individualized holiday party coasters …no two are the same, which will help your party guests out! And if you can’t find book-ish coasters like mine, you could easily paint one edge green and add gold stripes with the paint pen- done!

Ta-da! Identify your drink by the coaster.
Holiday guests, don’t fail me now! I have faith that you’ll appreciate the individualized party coasters so much that you won’t notice my not-magazine-photo-worthy handwriting on each one! <wink wink>
Craft on!
